Clem Caserta Dying for a new role
Mobguy actor used to getting whacked in films, until now
Clem Caserta is an actor who's been dying to get out of a movie
alive.

Yes, there've been a couple of flicks where he
did the killing. In "Casino," he got to pulverize
Joe Pesci. And in "Night in the City," he shot
his lifelong buddy, Robert De Niro. But
usually Caserta, who's played a million
wiseguys, gets whacked or takes a beating.

"In 'Mad Dog and Glory,' Bill Murray really
punched me hard," the beefy Caserta
remembers. "I said, 'If you hit me like that
again, 'I'll knock you out!' "

But even though he's proud of his many death scenes — like in the
forthcoming "Analyze This" — "I really die good in that" — he's
decided to take matters into his own hands.

Reviving his character in "A Bronx Tale," he has written a comedy
called "Jimmy Whispers Returns to Mulberry Street."

Caserta, who grew up on that street, says: "I'd play a wiseguy who
goes to California, becomes a movie director, and then returns to
Little Italy, where I discover a Chinese gang has taken over. I train
the Italian yuppies how to act like mob guys so they can clean out
the gang."

Best of all, says Caserta, "I finally get to live! It's about time."
